Volunteers Needed for a Campus Poverty Simulation

UCA is in need of volunteers for a campus poverty simulation on Thursday, February 27, 2020. This simulation is not a game, but rather an experiential setting that allows participants to view poverty from different angles.

The Poverty Simulation is intended to move community leaders to think about the harsh realities of poverty and to talk about how communities can address the problem. The simulation is a unique, interactive experience that helps people begin to understand what life is like with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress.

If you chose to volunteer, you would play the role of a vendor. Vendors interact with participants by imitating some of the common agency staff that individuals in poverty come into contact with.

The simulation will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at UCA’s McCastlain Hall Ballroom. Volunteers must arrive no later than 12:30 pm and will be trained from 12:30 to 1:15 pm. The simulation will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. A debrief will occur from 3:30 to 4:00 pm but this portion of the program is optional for volunteers. Please note: The total commitment is 12:30 to 3:30 pm (3 hours).

**Email cdi@uca.edu to sign up as a volunteer.
